Durham police charge suspect with fraud in excavation case

Durham police have charged a man with frauds totalling more than $770,000.

Police say a man fraudulently obtained investments in two schemes.

The first allegedly had investors giving money to a company that would sell tickets to people who could then drop off excavation fill at a private site in Orono.

Nothing was in place with the site for this to happen, it is alleged.

The second had investors giving money into a paving company that had paving contracts with two automobile businesses in Durham Region, but the contracts allegedly didn’t exist.

Peter Boychyn, 44, of Oshawa, is charged with four counts of fraud over $5000.
